Hello. Florence here

Eszter Kiss Tour guide

As luck would have it, a few years ago I moved to Florence, where I still live today with my Italian husband and our adorable son. I have always felt that it would be selfish to keep all the wonder, discovery and experience that I have lived and continue to live here. So I became a tour guide, with the mission to make my guests’ trip to Tuscany an experience of a lifetime.

Florence

Around 15 million people visit Florence every year. Visitors come from all over the world to see the city’s landmark, Brunelleschi’s dome, or the Gates of Paradise, on which Ghiberti worked for more than 20 years. The Medici family’s fame has reached far and wide, making their city strong, rich and famous, supporting young talented sculptors, painters and architects. And so Florence became synonymous with the arts and the Renaissance. The Uffizi Gallery still houses some of the most famous works in art history, such as Michelangelo’s single painting, Leonardo da Vinci’s youthful but extraordinary vision, Raphael’s beautiful figures, Botticelli’s Venus and Madonnas and Caravaggio’s Medusa, which captures the moment between life and death.
Immense wealth in a single city.

Tuscany

Florence’s artistic, cultural and historical heritage makes it without doubt the most visited city in the region. However, smaller, quieter, but also very rich in attractions, are increasingly popular destinations. Siena’s cathedral was already standing when the Florentines were still designing theirs, the Palio, as the heart and soul of the city, is not just a horse race, and is by no means an event for tourists. Lucca’s city walls conceal an almost untouched, rich city – its legends, anecdotes and ghosts still tell stories in its narrow streets, like Puccini, the city’s native. Its unique liqueur, still made from an original recipe, is sold in one place, and its sweet bread, reminiscent of its ancient Roman era, is a must for passers-by. Pistoia’s silver altar was worked by the greatest goldsmiths, leaving an unparalleled legacy to the city. The ancient pilgrim route crossed the city, and countless churches were built, some of which still bear witness to the city’s golden age.
San Gimignano is also known as the medieval Manhattan, where some of the towers that once proclaimed the wealth and power of its inhabitants can still be seen.
Vinci’s name is one of the most famous Renaissance men. In Leonardo’s homeland, he inherited something that would shape his thinking and values for the rest of his life. That’s why it’s worth visiting his birthplace and the museum named after him.
