Through my work, I meet all kinds of people. Sometimes they come from the other side of the world, and sometimes from my own hometown. Families, couples, large groups and solo travellers. Some are just beginning to discover the city and the region, while others have read countless books before their trip, arriving well prepared, enthusiastic and eager to learn everything they can.
It is also fascinating to discover what brings people to Florence. I once had a guest whose interest in the city began with a violent video game set during the Pazzi conspiracy. It made them curious about how and where these events actually took place. Others have been inspired to come here by a book, a film or simply a dream.
Once, a travel agency contacted me and asked whether I would be willing to guide two ladies in their eighties who were travelling to Florence together.
“With pleasure!” I replied.
The ladies had given the agency a precise list of the museums they absolutely wanted to visit with me. We spent two cheerful and enjoyable days together, exploring Florence from top to bottom. They were interested in the details – in discovering the traces that different historical periods had left on the city.
I recommend visiting Florence’s museums to those who have a little more time in the city and would like to explore some of its many different faces in greater depth.
There are many museums I can recommend depending on your interests, age and the amount of time you have available.
